Melodie has been working in health, wellness, and fitness since 2005. Throughout her undergraduate studies in nutrition at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, she quickly realized that researching, writing, and educating others were her true passion. She went on to complete her master’s degree in food science and human nutrition from the University of Maine in Orono (read her thesis abstract here).

After surviving years of gloomy New England winters, Melodie decided it was time to head west to train to enlist in the military and head to law school. Melodie was quickly turned away from the Navy because she was “too old” to enlist as an active officer, and thus, began her training with the Army. She spent nearly a year training in rigorous fitness and firearms training with recruits that were half her age. But because of an old shoulder injury and two prior rotator cuff surgeries, she was unable to pass her MEPS physicals and thus, was unable to enlist.

Melodie always says she is a “prepper by nature.” If there is something she can teach others to live their best through health and defensive tactics, she’s all in. She spends most of her time researching and writing medical and use of force documents for her clients. Melodie is a certified instructor through the National Rifle Association (NRA). Her true passion is in women and senior defense and basic pistol instruction. She teaches concealed carry weapons courses in Arizona and Texas, as well as several NRA-approved pistol and defense courses.

In 2017, Melodie was awarded a license to adopt from the foster care system. She took a break from her legal studies to focus on her family and caring for children in need. Melodie is active in her Catholic ministry and enjoys serving her community throughout north Dallas. In her spare time, Melodie is known for taking sporadic road trips, riding horses, and visiting local gun ranges. She helps out at a local barn working with therapy horses and one day hopes to one day learn mounted shooting.
